What should I pack for a trip to Israel?

Overview: Israel is an informal country. More important than elegant stilettos, are rubber-soled shoes with good traction. Women can turn daytime outfits into evening outfits with the addition of a shawl, lightweight sweater, colorful jewelry, scarves. Men do not need ties, sports jackets or suits to enter Israel’s top hotels or restaurants unless an invitation indicates such. Generally, the layered clothing approach works best: put on layers when it is cold, take off layers as the day warms up. At religious sites, sleeveless for men or women is not permitted. Women should carry a large scarf or pareo to instantly cover up bare arms or too bare legs (pareos make great skirts). Always opt for practicality over elegance – of course, an elegant practical outfit is the best!
